The R8 records up to two tracks at once and plays back eight in WAV format to SD or SDHC cards. Its built-in mixer has real faders, three-band EQ, panning and two effect sends per track. Over 140 DSP effects cover amp and preamp models, reverb, chorus/delay and mastering tools such as multi-band compression. A chromatic tuner and metronome are included.
Beyond recording, the unit has eight velocity-sensitive pads that trigger up to 24 samples, drum sounds or loops, plus a rhythm machine with 160 drum and percussion sounds and a step-entry audio sequencer. Samples can be made from recorded tracks and edited with trim and time-stretch.
Two XLR/TRS combo inputs take mic, line and (on input 1) instrument signals, with phantom power. A pair of omnidirectional condenser microphones is built in. Outputs are two balanced TRS jacks and a headphone output. A mini-B USB 2.0 port provides a 2-in/2-out audio interface, Mackie Control emulation for DAWs and SD card reader mode. Power comes from four AA batteries, the AD-17 adapter or USB.
