WA-19

The WA-19 is a dynamic cardioid microphone that recreates the character of a classic 1960s studio and stage mic. Its brass humbucking capsule is assembled by hand and is intended to give the noise rejection of a dynamic design with more high-frequency detail than many studio dynamics.

Two mechanical features shape the tone. A rotating acoustic high-pass filter ring alters the space behind the transducer and can cut up to 10 dB at 50 Hz, tightening low end and lifting the upper midrange without the phase shift of an electronic filter. Vents along the side of the body reduce proximity effect, so close placement on loud sources produces less boomy bass and leaves less low-frequency clean-up when editing.

Typical uses listed are vocals, drums, snare and acoustic guitar. It is available in nickel and black finishes. A single-channel tube preamp, the WA-MPX, is suggested as a companion. A manual and product registration are available from the maker.
