The JD-Xi combines an analog monophonic synth section (saw, triangle and square waves with pulse-width modulation, an analog filter and a sub oscillator) with two digital SuperNATURAL synth parts and a PCM drum kit part. The digital sections cover pads, strings, electric piano and effects, and the keyboard has 37 mini keys with velocity.
A four-track pattern sequencer covers the two digital parts, the analog part and drums. It offers real-time and step recording, including a TR-REC mode modelled on Roland's TR-series drum machines, and ships with preset patterns. The included gooseneck mic feeds the Vocoder, AutoPitch and Auto Note functions. Four effects run at once (Effect 1, Effect 2, Delay and Reverb) and can be switched on or off per part.
Connections include stereo 1/4-inch outputs, a headphone jack, a line/guitar input, an XLR mic input, MIDI In/Out and a USB Hi-Speed port for audio and MIDI with a computer. Extra sounds and patterns can be downloaded from Roland's Axial library.
