The 888 is a power amplifier that uses MOON's MDCA (MOON Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier) topology, which operates without global feedback. It is specified at 888 W per channel into 8 ohms and 1776 W into 4 ohms, with a high damping factor intended to keep tight control over speaker movement.
The chassis is machined from solid aluminum, with large cast heat sinks that also house the audio circuitry to damp vibration. Cooling is passive. The output transistor stage carries a total rating of 8 kW, and the power supply has more than 350,000 µF of energy storage with large transformers. Speaker outputs are rhodium-plated heavy-duty connectors.
The amplifier takes its signal from a preamplifier, with the MOON 850P suggested as a companion. Each unit is hand-assembled and tested in Canada. The box contains an AC power cable, an owner's manual and, for the USA and Canada, warranty and registration information.
