The HD4 is a two-piece stereo system in which the left speaker holds the amplifier, DAC and all connections, and the right speaker is passive and linked to it by speaker wire. Each cabinet is finished in matte black or real walnut veneer and has a front port and removable magnetic grilles. A 4-inch aramid fiber woofer and a 0.75-inch silk dome tweeter are fitted in each speaker.
Sources can be wired or wireless. Bluetooth supports aptX HD, low-latency aptX, aptX, AAC and SBC. Wired options are USB, stereo RCA and a 3.5 mm mini-jack input. The analog inputs stay active together, while Bluetooth and USB share one DAC and Bluetooth takes priority. A turntable can be connected to the analog input, though some models need a separate phono preamp. RCA outputs allow connection to other equipment, and a headphone output is on the front.
The switching power supply adapts automatically to different mains voltages, and the AC cable is detachable. Speaker cable, an antenna and the audio cables are supplied.
