Riverside combines a class-A JFET analog input stage, which adds up to 20dB of gain, with SHARC DSP gain stages. The Drive knob changes several circuit parameters at once, so the response stays tuned as the gain is raised. A Gain switch selects a looser low-gain channel or a tighter high-gain channel, and a Push switch adds a mid-range emphasis after the analog stage.
Tone shaping comes from independent Bass, Middle and Treble controls placed after the drive stages, plus a three-position Presence switch for the top end. A Favorite footswitch stores and recalls one preset, and secondary functions provide a variable-threshold noise reduction (downward expander) and a Boost Level setting of up to +6dB.
The unit has a mono input and output, a Boost jack for an external switch, and an Expression jack that handles expression control, volume mode and MIDI. The Boost jack can also trigger the Favorite setting on other Strymon pedals. MIDI gives access to 300 preset locations and control of all knobs and switches. Bypass is relay-based true bypass or a selectable analog buffered bypass.
