X-Amp

The X-Amp is an active reamping box that takes a balanced line-level signal, such as a dry guitar track from a recorder or interface, and converts it to a level and impedance suited to guitar amplifiers and effects pedals. This lets an engineer record a part clean and decide on amp, pedals and microphone placement later.

The signal path is fully discrete class-A, and the output is transformer isolated to remove hum and buzz caused by ground loops. A level control and an LED peak indicator sit on the input side, and a 180° polarity reverse switch helps bring two amps into phase. A dual ground lift switch helps with noise-free operation. Two outputs allow more than one amp or pedal chain to be fed at once.

It connects with balanced line-level input from the playback source and sends the reamped signal to the amplifier or pedal chain. Reamping is not limited to guitars: vocals, drums and other tracks can be sent through amps or pedals for added colour.
