The PowerPre is a mic preamp in the 500 series module format and fits any 500 series rack. It uses discrete components throughout, with an input stage designed for low noise and a Hammond broadcast transformer on the output. A three-position Vox control lets the user add either extra air or more punch to the sound.
In the simplest setup a microphone connects to the module and the XLR output goes to the recording system. It can also act as the first stage of a channel strip: its output is cascaded into an EQ and compressor module, with the last module feeding the recorder.
The PowerPre is not limited to microphones. When used with a Radial Workhorse rack, instruments such as a bass guitar can be plugged straight into the Omniport and recorded through it. A user guide and a smart sheet are available for owners, and the product is no longer shipping.
