The 310LP is a phono stage built around a redesigned, lower-noise onboard power supply, which lessens the need for an external supply. A large isolated supply on its own circuit board uses a toroidal transformer with two stages of voltage regulation, and an external compatible power supply can be connected instead.
User adjustments inside the chassis cover resistance loading, capacitance loading and gain level. Two equalization curves are offered: RIAA and IEC. Gain settings of 40 dB and 66 dB are referenced in the specifications, covering moving-magnet and lower-output cartridges.
The circuit is symmetrical and uses 4-layer printed circuit boards with pure copper tracing to keep the signal path short. Each IC in the audio signal path has its own inductor in the supply regulation, and the supply uses custom electrolytic capacitors. Outputs are single-ended RCA and balanced XLR, so it can feed a balanced preamplifier or integrated amplifier.
