Etherwave Theremin

Analog theremin played by moving the hands near two antennas, with no physical contact. It has a five-octave pitch range, headphone and audio outputs, and CV outputs for pitch, volume and gate to drive synthesizers. Suited to players from beginners to professionals.

  • Analog heterodyning oscillator with analog VCA
  • Pitch range of about 0 Hz to 4.2 kHz, five octaves
  • Volume antenna dynamic range over 70 dB
  • 3.5mm Pitch CV, Volume CV and Gate CV outputs
  • Headphone output with volume control and Mute button
  • Hardwood cabinet with two quick-release brass antennas

Descripción

The Etherwave Theremin is an analog instrument built around a heterodyning oscillator and a VCA. Hand proximity to the pitch antenna sets the frequency, from roughly 0 Hz to 4.2 kHz, while the volume antenna controls dynamics over a range of more than 70 dB. The circuit follows Bob Moog's classic theremin design, with updated electronics that improve bass response in the lower registers. The pitch range spans five octaves with balanced note spacing.

The cabinet is hand-finished hardwood with two quick-release plated-brass antennas and a detachable mic stand adapter. Front-panel controls adjust timbre and the antenna response, and a calibration access panel on top allows deeper adjustment. A headphone output with its own volume control works together with a Mute button that silences the main output while leaving the headphones active, so tuning and timbre can be set privately.

For connections, the rear panel has a 1/4" audio output, a 1/4" jack for a momentary footswitch that controls Mute, and 3.5mm Pitch CV, Volume CV and Gate CV jacks for patching into analog, modular, semi-modular and Eurorack systems. Power comes from an external wall adapter.
