The CA401 is an entry model in Kawai's Concert Artist line. It uses the Grand Feel Compact action, a wooden-key keyboard with a seesaw pivot that reproduces the touch weight of the larger Grand Feel actions in a smaller body. Piano tones come from the SK-EX Competition Grand, using Progressive Harmonic Imaging.

Audio comes from a redesigned motherboard, a revised speaker system with four speakers and a new power adapter, intended to give a rich, clear sound with low distortion. A cheek-block control panel with an OLED display gives access to a selection of instrument voices, built-in lesson songs and recording with playback of performances.

Bluetooth MIDI and Bluetooth Audio let the piano connect wirelessly to smart devices, either to run music apps or to stream music through the instrument. The cabinet has a rounded topboard, tapered legs, a flat fascia and a tall upper board for an upright-piano look. It is just over 48 cm deep and comes in Rosewood, Black and Satin White.
