The Steel Leather is an expander pedal made specifically for bass guitar. An expander works in the reverse way to a compressor: instead of reducing dynamics, it emphasises the attack of each note, helping the bass keep its definition and stay audible in a live performance.
The pedal uses true bypass switching, so the signal path is left untouched when the effect is off. It is built in a compact die-cast chassis measuring 70 x 115 x 54 mm (2.75 x 4.5 x 2.1 in).
Power comes from a 9-volt battery that is included, or from the optional 96DC-200BI power supply sold separately. An owner's manual is available as a download. The model was discontinued in 2021.
