The Germanium 4 Big Muff Pi is an analog pedal that splits its drive into two independent channels. The overdrive side and the distortion side each use their own pair of germanium transistors and have their own controls and footswitch. Engaging both at once stacks them into a four-transistor circuit.
The overdrive side has gain, bias, tone and volume controls. Bias changes the character of the preamp section, and tone is a single knob. The distortion side has gain, bias, volts and volume controls. Bias shapes the signal before it reaches the germanium transistors. Volts sets the voltage supplied to the distortion side only, so lowering it gives a starved-battery character.
Each side has its own status LED and footswitch. The pedal is mono with a single input and output jack, and it has true bypass. It runs on a supplied 9V battery. An optional 9.6VDC-200mA adapter can be used but is not included. The maker lists it as discontinued in 2024.
